M&E Designer


Job Title: M&E Designer (Retail Fit Out & Refurbishment Projects)

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland

Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 + Car Allowance

Role Overview:
As the M&E Designer, you will be heading up the in-house design team producing drawings for M&E installation projects across the retail sector.

Key Requirements:

* Experience working in a Design function on M&E installation projects in the construction sector
* Previous experience of high volumes of work in fast paced environments
* Experience of producing detailed drawings using AutoCAD

Responsibilities:

* Design and coordinate mechanical and electrical systems for retail fit-out and refurbishment projects ensuring compliance with client requirements building regulations and industry standards.
* Produce and review M&E drawings layouts schematics and technical specifications for HVAC lighting power fire alarms data and plumbing systems.
* Liaise with the wider site team to deliver projects on time and within budget.
* Carry out site surveys to assess existing services identify constraints and develop practical design solutions for live retail environments.
* Manage the M&E design process from concept through to construction issue including revisions approvals and as-built documentation.
* Coordinate utility applications load assessments and landlord submissions for new and existing retail units.
* Ensure designs are cost-effective buildable energy efficient and aligned with project budgets and value engineering targets.
* Support procurement teams by preparing technical scopes reviewing subcontractor proposals and responding to tender queries.
* Attend design team meetings progress meetings and site coordination meetings to resolve technical issues and maintain programme delivery.
* Monitor installation quality on site respond to RFIs and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
* Review commissioning plans test certificates and O&M manuals to ensure smooth handover to clients and end users.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations sustainability standards and emerging technologies relevant to retail environments.
